AGS Awards 2010

So the awards ceremony took finally place and I was invited to be part of the committee for the lifetime achievement award and the best innovation award.

I was happy that the whole committee didn't argue a lot and that we decided to make Mark Lovegrove the winner of the lifetime achievement award. He really made some consistent soundtracks for amateur adventure games and I couldn't imagine a Trilby game without his music.

The best innovation award was given to the guys who try to make amateur adventure games more cross platform so that many games from the independent scene could be played in flash or java script soon on different devices. I really hope that they will be successful with this idea and they still have a long way to go.

Three Nominations for the Earl...

So Earl Bobby got three nominations for the AGS Award of this year.

Best Voice Acting.
Best Sound Effects and
Best non Player Character (Must have been the shepherd)

I think for a commercial game this is a pretty good success!
Now let's hope that it makes the step and wins an award this year!

A Second Face - Sunlight Report 2

In this report I would first like to announce a new version of "A Second Face - The Eye of Geltz is Watching Us". It includes a full Spanish translation by Idoia Irazuzta and Julio Pozo.

It is our hope that a lot of Spanish speakers will now be able to enjoy the game.

By the way, the version includes improved running animations for the main character and several small fixes.

The sequel "May Sunlight be with You" is still under way and a few new Screenshots are available. In the past months I have mainly worked on background artwork and it is getting more and more concrete. The storyline has developed and a small demo might be released this year at some point in December.

A Second Face - Sunlight Report 1

In the past months I was asked several times about the sequel for "A Second Face" and how the developing is going on. I have now decided to make continous reports on this blog in order to show the progress of the game. I am working hard like ever and just managed to conclude another game, that is currently translated into Italian before it's release. So I am dedicating large parts of my time to "A Second Face - May Sunlight be with You". The first screenshots can be seen below like the entrance to the "library of the sun" or the "neverending swamps". A concrete date for the release of this full lenght project is still not fixed. It depends also very much on how fast we can translate it into English when it is finally done...

ORBIS project

This first small Demo movie is the result of a collaboration with the Composer Vito Zuraj. An interactive World of sounds and forms. The simple design was intended. However there is one climax in the middle where it gets more detailed. The final movie will be much longer and contain lots of abstract variations.

www.asecondface.com - The new domain

I already twittered yesterday night, that A Second Face got an own domain now. The game information can now be found at http://www.asecondface.com while the game itself is still just distributed by friendly people from the internet. This was not only done because the domain was sponsored by Walter, it is also necessary because since there will be two sequels to the game and therefore the website should be online in the next few years.

In order to make the site appear a bit better in search engines I transcribed it into xhtml with css formatting yesterday with some crash course tactics - the original site still was a html frameset which caused too many problems with web stats and search engines. It is still not perfect but it looks like the frame version and should work better now.

This morning I got the first stats and it is nice to see that everything is working and that about 130 persons have visited the site the first day. All kind of different nationalities can be seen in the visitor spectrum. But it is also interesting that no Chinese or African visitors could be found for now. Maybe translations do really matter a lot more than we all already think... who knows...
Maybe they censor independent games in China?

On the other side statistics are a way to loose your time if you look at them too much. So I go back developing now.
